    Book details

The story of Swan Lake has enchanted generations: a monumental tale of loyalty and betrayal, of magic used for good and evil, of love both carnal and pure, and of the incredible duality of human nature as Prince Siegfried, a selfish hedonist and dissolute womaniser, comes across the swan maidens as day dissolves into dusk . . .

And then the woman he has wronged teaches him a lesson that will change the course of his life for ever . . .

Mercedes Lackey uses her own brilliant storytelling to breathe vibrant new life into an old favourite.

A classic fantasy of shapeshifting, sorcery and love given a new twist by a bestselling storyteller.

A great story for all those who like me don't actually know the original story of the Black Swan.I simply enjoyed the story, seeing how the main character grows wise to her father's controlling ways and finally decides she must escape and help those who have been hurt by him. I thought the ending was original, in that it didn't end completed with her in the arms of her first lover as most books tend to do. Instead it was opened ended with the suggestion that when she was ready she would look for love, probably with the man who had begun to fall for her.Though I guess if you do know the original story of the Black Swan it can only enhance it by giving a different take on it.

This book was well thought out, with believeable characters with whom I could really empathise with. I even felt sorry for the prince at one point. It had all the magical feel a really great fantasy book should have. The ending was true genius. There wasn't one moment where I lost the plot or got lost in a sub plot. The descriptions of the places were vivid and colourful. It is just a shame that it was a single book because it left me wanting more.
